Our Story

Who We Are

Welcome to The Rabbit Barn and Barnyard, a family run hobby farm with the purpose of giving our kids experience in raising and showing animals for 4-H and FFA. We are located in Morrowville which is next to Nebraska in north central Kansas.

It all started when the grandparents asked if they could get the older 2 kids a pair of rabbits.  Crazy of us I know but we said yes!  That began our journey along the road that sometimes feels like it is a 3 ring circus!  The kids started showing rabbits at the county fair in 2006.  2007 saw Christopher bring home our first champion rabbit plaque from the fair and it started a string of 4 straight wins in 07, 08, 09, and 2010.  2010 also saw us attend our first state fair. Wow that was a lot of rabbits.  We also started attending larger shows in the state with the 4-H show in Emporia Kansas in 2011.  County fair 2012 saw the kids win county fair again and begin another kind of streak in which one of the kids won Champion rabbit in 12, 14, 16, 18, 19, 2021, 2022, and 2024. We made it back to the Kansas State Fair in September of 2022.  The kids did well taking home Best of Breed in Mini Rex, Tan, and Mini Lop.  They also brought home Best Opposite of Breed in Mini Rex, Mini Satin, and Tan. At the 2023 Kansas State Fair we took 1st Reserve in show!  Our first placing at that level.  2023 also saw rabbits from the barn when our first ARBA Best In Shows with Thor the mini lop, and Dutchess the Tan. Since then we have had several Mini Lops, Mini Satins, Tans, and Havana with numerous show placings including placing in both 4H shows and ARBA shows.

In 2012 we added Nigerian Dwarf goats (Something Dad said we would never own.) by welcoming Chloe.  The next year we welcomed Star, Sapphire, and Diamond.  Thus began our adventure into this fun, inquisitive, and entertaining breed of miniature dairy goats.

2014 saw the addition of alpacas to the barnyard as we welcomed Mia and Bella. April of 2017 saw Mia give birth to Tango who we ended of bottle feeding 6-8 times a day for 4 months!

In 2018 we added a small herd of Boer & Boer/Nubian cross goats. Elizabeth and Jonathan each have a small herd that they are raising as part of their FFA projects.

In the fall of 2019 we obtained a pair of Juilanna pigs (another thing Dad said we would never own).  These are a miniature breed.

The barnyard is currently home to rabbits (Mini Lop, Mini Rex, Mini Satin, Havana, Netherland Dwarfs and Tan), Nigerian Dwarf goats, Boer goats, alpacas, Julianna pigs, hedge hogs, chickens and Guinea pigs.

Hope you enjoyed your glimpse into our little slice of heaven.

We have been raising commercial Nigerian Dwarf goats since 2012.  Nigerians are a miniature dairy goat that produce what some consider the best goat milk.  They also make wonderful pets.  Babies are arriving now.

The kids have been working on their lines for many years.  Our rabbits are competitive in ARBA and do typically do well in 4-H.  We currently raise Mini Lop, Havana, Tan, Mini Rex, Mini Satin, and Netherland Dwarfs.  We are back to attending shows and the kids are doing well.  All rabbits come with a pedigree.
